True Gaits is located in the North Georgia Mountains in Whitfield County. After leasing a farm in Cherokee County for 3 years, we were finally able to purchase our own 30 acre farm. We breed and sell Naturally Gaited Horses with good termperments.
We believe in raising good natured, naturally gaited horses and use natural horsemanship techniques for training. We feel that ground work is a very important role in training a good trail horse. The relationship between you and your horse must start on the ground before moving to the saddle. Ground work is essential in the fact that any problem you encounter on the ground will only be worse under saddle. A good foundation is the key to developing a horses future.
For a horse to allow a person to ride on their back shows trust and respect for both horse and rider. A willing partner that has been trained with respect, choices and common sense allows for rewarding horse ownership. It is the responsibilitly of the horse owner and rider to be as knowledgeable of the training methods that obtain the desired results between horse and rider.
It's our belief that a horse is only broke when it is soft, supple, willing and responsive to the rider. A horse that just allows you to ride and have no control of speed or direction is not a broke horse. For a horse to be broke they must; maintain speed until asked to go faster or slower, can be asked to stop by voice commands, your seat, your reins, and can back willingly with a soft feel. We want our horses to cross water willingly, stand quietly when tied, and use the thinking side of their brain, instead of the reactive side.
From time to time we host gaited clinics. For the past two years Elizabeth Graves has conducted an All Breeds Clinic explaining the bio-mechanics of gaits, bits and bitting, saddle fitting, common sense ground work, gait analysis and gait development along with conditioning. Clinics were geared for all levels of riding from beginning to advanced. Ms. Graves is a well known popular clinician that helps the rider and horse lover understand about gaits without gimics.
We use chiropractic treatment along with Equine Sports Massage to benefit our horses overall health and happiness.
